Dammit. They had to make it right. So now I have to play it and not do anything else I should be doing.

The 90's brought lot’s of great things, but for a deep modular build game system, it brought this game off the table to the computer. It’s been gone for fifteen years now, but last month this came out. It’s good.

For 2018, released in April, It is a turn-based and third-person view game. Just like the tabletop game, and its great. I’m gonna have to get people to come over and drag me out of the house because all I want to do is figure out the most efficient builds and plan a strategic approach to missions. The challenges? Keeping the money coming in to pay for everything, the ship, the mech repairs, employees, parts and more parts. It’s just like it used to be in the original game. It’s a solo game. I like that for once. Not everything has to be an MMO or huge FPS exploitfest . It has huge replayability and lots of room for future expansion/mods/etc. I was plotting out a large writing project. I was going to start putting miles on the road bike again. Oh well. That all can wait.

[updating my thoughts: they had better talk with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in to this style of pc game. The translation works!]

Now I’m tempted to drag my box set out of the games closet.

I played Mechwarrior 2 a ton back in the day. I like the universe and the concept, but only with the in-cockpit view and controls. The turn-based RTS controls don’t do it for me.

I’m loving this game, I feel like I’m a kid again playing the table top.

This game got an immediate Kickstarter contribution from me on account of being a sucker for anything Battletech/Mechwarrior and the outstanding job HBS did on Shadowrun (another IP I adore). I only haven’t started playing yet because I recognize it for the black hole of time investment it’s about to become and I’d at least like to wrap up my in-progress playthrough of Yakuza 6 first. It will be soon, though.

Do not start this game. Its too balanced and great. Youll start making spreadsheets to find best build combos. There isnt a best combo...its a huge black hole

I unboxed my technical readout. The weapons are more balanced so a perfect combo is never possible. Endless building!

So, you’re telling me I should dust off my Battletech Tech Readout 3025 book

Kinja'd!!!

and start bubbling in the stat sheets I still have? This was my second favorite game back in the late 80's early 90's. I was a Starfleet Battles player. I still miss all the miniatures I had all painted up, but I sold everything I had when I got out of college and had to adult full time. Computer games are great, but I like table top games more.

This is your game if you liked the table top. It’s turn based so you can just leave it running on your turn, get up to do laundry or tend to kids or bills and come back to it and throw in another turn. Your stats and mech sheets are reasonably still accurate. They changed the damage numbers but across the board by multiples so the builds are still close to accurate. But the balance of weapons makes other guns viable so its not just medium lasers and PPC’s all day like before. And theres melee fighting....more than you thought before...and mech mods to actuators so you can relive your own Pacific Rim slugfest. I never gave Firestarters much cred but I’m damn scared of them now. Just drop the $40+ and play. Theyre always putting out patches aimed at improving the player experience (fixing initial issues, etc.) instead of adding more stuff or screwing up play.

Ok, now you’re really tempting me. This could be my ask for father’s day. Like I need a big time suck in my life. But, my son and I could finally bond over a PC game. And I always liked the Grasshopper. Jump capable with a good weapons load out.

It sucks. it runs up behind you, flames the hell out of you, and then you overheat and shut down, lucky if your ammo doesnt explode and incapacitate the pilot, and get gang *****d by the rest of the mechs on the field. Theres the campaign and a skirmish options....good storyline. Jordan Wisemann made this game possible. He started FASA (btech and shadowrun, etc.) and revived both recently and did great work. It’s not someone else with the rights, its the original guys.
